Many Aspire, Few Attain
by Walter A. Henrichsen
Printed in 1975, Walter is alive =P and served as regional and worldwide director of the Navigators for a while. You can purchase the booklet here: https://www.navpress.com/product/9781600064036/Many-Aspire-Few-Attain-Walter-A-Henrichsen

His little booklet serves as a short reflection on how one can run the good race of God instead of just sitting on the shelf. We can all easily do that, even as Christians, hence the title. Walter gives ample reason as to why we should keep running the race, and how to do so continually. Many can start the race well, but can we keep up till the end to do a good finish?

So why the race? We fight a spiritual warfare. We are either in it or on the sidelines. If we dun fight we just wait for the enemy to overwhelm us. Satan's forces are ever working, just as God is ever working. If you have a calling to witness, or to serve others, or to give, how do you stick to it? The booklet offers 14 points to keep yourself fit for the spiritual warfare. I mention some thru my QT posts... but the main takeaway is to always turn to the Bible and keep to its laws. One major point besides having a heart for God, trusting him and hating sin, is to hunger for the Word.

1 Peter 2:2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation. The Word itself is living and active, more powerful than any book on earth. Its truths are real and impactful. Newborn babies definitely have to get milk to sustain life. But as adults now, do we still have to take tt milk anymore? Well of course! My leader asked that qns and my immediate childish answer was tt adults need the milk too, 'cos if they didn't have it, they would get osteoporosis. Oh well... The main answer would be the word "Like", which is to imitate newborn babies. Not only to go back to the Word, but to the gospel. Claire said despite her work, she comes back to campus to witness about the gospel 'cos she needed to hear it, not so much for the person she shared it to. The gospel, tho basic and well-worn on our ears, is the source of our encouragement to labour on earth.

Anyway, the Bible itself contains troves of hidden treasure; one can never really unlock all the secrets to it unless one has the cheat code from God. It is good to read the Bible once thru every year, 'cos at different phases of your life, different parts of the Bible can speak to different things: as a student, I would try to see how I could learn to work well with classmates; as an officer worker, I can see things as needing order and patience with difficult people; as a mother, I can see things like doing chores and serving the family a godly work; as a wife... and so on.

FYI: a boy started reading the Bible at 16 and by 20, he read the Bible as many times as he was years old. He continued till 50. A power to be reckoned with.

The Need of the Hour
by Dawson Trotman
Website: http://www.navpress.com/store/search.aspx?q=the+need+of+the+hour
Recently at the Nav camp in Malaysia, we went through a short booklet called The Need of the Hour by Dawson Trotman. It was based on one of his addressing speeches to the Navigators men to inspire them towards world vision. I've been looking for an online version but the Nav digital copyright policy doesn't allow me to share the material on the interwebz, so above is a link to the booklet you have to purchase =P

(ooh, wait a minute, for personal use, feel free to Google it)

I listened to the audio version at the camp, and they edited out a lot of mentions from the booklet... I guess 'cos the original one had a lot more deviations from the main message, the need of the hour/moment.

Here's a snippet anyway: "Then it dawned on me in a way I had never considered before. When Jesus Christ sent the 11 out, He let a situation exist which was so bad that there could never be a worse one. No printing presses, no automobiles, no radios, no television, no telephone, no buildings, not one single church, no uniforms, nothing for the vestry. He didn't leave them a little emblem.

He left them only a job to do, but with it He said, 'All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.Go ye therefore...' (Matt 28:18-19)."

The entire message Daws gave was simply that the disciples went out on a leap of faith. Not knowing what the future would bring, not knowing where they would go and whether there would be money or food or shelter, they only had faith. I guess God wants all his people to only be equipped with that when we do his work. Don't need the materials, or the literature, but just have faith and a mouth to proclaim Christ.

I dare not say I have a strong faith, but I have it nonetheless and I'm not afraid to use it! =P lol, I just need to learn when. In this camp, I thought I would start by giving myself and everything in daily prayer to God, and let him take control of everything. Let him use me and what I have. When Christ really is in the centre, I have to let him take the steering wheel of my life.

There's this job opening that has called me in for an interview. It's the same company I interned in, but maybe different boss. I want a full-time job but I didn't want the PR job. But I guess if God wants me there, I have to learn to submit. He didn't quite bless my previous time there, but I hope he would be with me here. So hopefully ultimately I can learn to be trained there in office while continuing the Great Commission. =))

What on Earth Am I Here For?
written by Rick Warren
Website: http://www.purposedrivenlife.com/en-US/Home/knowChrist/

Why am I alive? Does my life matter? What is my purpose?

The book What on Earth Am I Here For? by Pastor Rick Warren is a good read for anyone who is looking for a purpose in life or is pursuing so many things but nothing is satisfying enough. The book is only the first 7 chapters of a longer series, "The Purpose Driven Life" which consists of books and videos. Anyway, this little booklet is handy for the young Christian or even the non-Christian who is open about knowing more about how great his life can get. There is an online downloadable version of the booklet in the website above.

[I love the section on the part where you are asked to describe what or how you see life. Some see it as a watch or race, constantly running out of time or needing to win. I see it as a lot of animals and wonderful loving people surrounded by exquisite garden plants and flowers and trees. I like and hope to revel in God's creation as how he had created it, as in the Garden of Eden. Lol, so like my childhood drawings.]

Furthermore, to accompany the thought-provoking questions in the book, other questionaires and answers to questions "Why must I Pray?" and "Why do Quiet Time?" are in the site. These once again form the basis of what's important in our lives, the basics, building a foundation that cannot be shaken when storms come.

Campus Crusade Asia Ltd offering : http://www.ccalmm.com/2011/08/08/purpose-driven-life/
The "Purpose Driven Life" has 6 Volumes, set for a 40-week curriculum. The actual series is promising. I haven't really gone through it but the first impression in that first book gives a strong feeling about the rest. And anw its rather cheap for a whole book series. Ok, Campus Crusade dun offer the video one though... o.o
