Evolution: Darwin's Dangerous Idea
Written and directed by David Espar and Susan K. Lewis

Viewer discretion: Watch vid only if your faith is wholly in His hands.
This movie is based entirely on the formation and long-running history of Darwin's theory on evolution. It had begun with the discovery of huge fossils and a variety of bird species on the Galapagos Islands, that could only mean one thing: that the animals had evolved and adapted over innumerable periods of time according to the countries' climate. Later, with the aid of his older brother, he went on even more so pursuing his theories.

Darwin observed that many of his specimens (esp tt of dinosaurs and winged animals and apes) all appeared to have a similar structure in that they had webbed feet, long toes or claws, a spine, head and 4 limbs. Hence thr had to be a basic creation of life that had all these traits, like the trunk of a tree being the centre most structure of all living things. And as the tree branches out it creates another new category of animal (eg birds, mammals). As the branch sprouts leaves, it creates another sub-group for the species of animal (eg. finches, monkeys).

And throughout his collection of finch specimens, he decided that new species and animals were being created and going extinct every time as they slowly adjusted to the living conditions of the Galapagos Islands. For example, one bird is found with a small short beak for catching insects, while another has a strong huge beak for breaking tough nuts. The ones that have small beaks may die out faster than the big beaks, and the big beaks may slowly evolve to suit the Island life better. Hence the creation of a new species was to continue the survival of the current line, and the ones that couldn't change to suit the environment wud perish and never be seen again. It was a survival of the fittest and only the strongest or most well adjusted will be able to survive.

At one time he chances on a topic his grandfather published before, speaking of the possibility of all animal and plant life, whatever that has breath in it, would only have sprouted from the same ancient ancestor, or the root of all life. Darwin thought he was working in the right direction to finally make meaning of what man might never understand. Several scholars even supported the notion that what he was doing was bringing purpose to all of mankind through all his studies.

I have to stop there 'cos I totally forgot the entire movie already. But this theory never dies, and is worth understanding what the layman believes 'cos only then can one explain its loopholes to the person while witnessing. My dad is one of those who like the Evolution theory, and that all of us came from a Big Bang.

The only sad thing was, despite having heard the Bible, Darwin never really attributed anything to the prowess of God's creation and the meticulous design of mammals themselves. When God created all things, he made them good. That is, nth evil or potential of having an evil nature or for sin to disrupt. All these good things had to start changing to ensure survival now, since the good things didn't have to die initially. Now that sin came in, there is death and all creatures have to adapt to live now. Not like anyone would want that. Having been degraded from possibly having eternal life, men now had to live for themselves to survive. Adapting is the only way. Believe what you may, but God created all things good: birds, mammals, fish, plants, insects, micro-organisms. They are all but rotten now, a variation from the original design.

The many arguments to put forth would take a lifetime of counter-arguments, but is still essential because if the scientist/evolutionist were very zealous for it and promotes it, all the more should the Christian to downplay these speculations. It is only with firm knowledge of the gospel can one accomplish this, that's why at the beginning I wrote that you have to know your Bible well to attack these un-truths.

A heart-warming, comical but very real scenario not few people have gone through. I know a number of Christians who also leave their spouses because they don't measure up. (It's usually the women who take the initiative.) This main character is one of them. Caleb a fireman, constantly in the line of fire with death a looming dread all the time. And to release that 'stress', he gets addicted to porn. A few fights later, he and his wife Catherine just want a divorce.

The one trying to save the marriage though, is Caleb's father. He advises Caleb to seek God first, but to no avail. (In any issue, God is usually the one who allows the problem, and can turn it around when the time is right.) He then hands Caleb a handy guide-to save the marriage called the Love Dare, and to take it one day at a time. His father says it's what saved his own marriage. There are certain aspects of the usual romance tips inside, but it points ultimately to glorify God. There are relevant verses at the bottom which is in tune with what the romantic tip is trying to achieve, like send her flowers, make her favourite drink, buy sth she likes, leave a letter to apologise.

There's the Love Dare book for purchase, written by the directors Alex and Stephen Kendrick:

There are also other materials like a bible study along with the DVD release, and marriage curriculum for the young couple. Sounds useful for the people in love or already happily married or building a relationship.

Later in the movie, Caleb's dad finally gets through to him. Caleb finds it agonisingly hard to love someone who keeps rejecting him, and comes to recognise that God may feel the same with him too, being that he keeps rejecting God though his dad says God loves him. Catherine inadvertently sees a sudden change in his behaviour for good, than outward romancing and trying to salvage their marriage, and then... I won't spoil it. It was great that Caleb also had someone's shoulder to cry on, and to fellowship with after he accepted Christ. Cool stuff.
