On Evangelism part 3: SIN

Ok, here's a good piece that came up in Google search: http://www.discipleshiplibrary.com/Bridgehome.htm
It's the entire gospel (Good News) of Christ in one post with a couple of verses to let you look in depth into his life story: why he died and how he died.

The reason is simply this: that Christ Jesus came to die on the cross for ALL our sins. This leads to the qns on sin. When sharing to strangers, the usual responses are bad deeds or evil things (some may quote the 7 deadly sins from Proverbs, which is good). It is simply disobedience to God, stealing, lying, anger, jealousy are some... as long as we fall short of his standard, or prefer to go our own way, it's sin.

Isaiah 53:6 We all, like sheep, have gone stray, each of us has turned to his own way, and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all. (If you want to memorise the whole gospel, use the link above.)

CONVICT THE PERSON OF SIN
This portion of the gospel deserves more attention. Sin is hard to understand if the person never felt a sense of guilt or loss in the purpose of life (I learned to hate the world since young so I'm naturally inclined to the concept). Only the Holy Spirit is capable of convicting the person of it, therefore much prayer is needed for awareness. To make one conscious about the existence of sin, it is good to make her ponder and think about matters like what we see in the news, what are some bad things about letting emotions go amok, what is sin and some examples... (At this point, if the person still has no vague clue, I would share my testimony on sin vs peace. You should share your testimony.)

Rom3:23 For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. How many in this world have sinned? ALL. This includes you, me and her. Even one small lie, that has marked all of us. If all have sinned, then who hasn't sinned? God! Jesus. He came to earth to be like us, and live like us, but when he got the opportunity to lie to his mum, steal his dad's wallet, go flirt with girls or curse and swear at mean dudes, he didn't. Tts a bit tough for us to do, but he could.

We have sin, so what? What's wrong with living with it? Rom6:23 For the wages of sin is death... What is wages? A payment, salary for a work, sth we deserve. Our payment for working for sin is death. We all have to die: tt is not new. The physical body will bleh (btw, not a proper word), kaput. And worse still, 'cos we have a soul and have to face God in heaven, having been sinful we will be judged. Having sin is a crime in God's law 'cos we have disobeyed it.

When we (nonbelievers) go to court, will we be judged for our good deeds and bad deeds or bad only? (Believers have to account for both, Eccle12:14 For God will bring every deed into judgment... whether it is good or evil.) The Supreme Judge wouldn't look at the Good list and the Bad list simultaneously and judge us on both. If I committed a murder, the Judge wouldn't say I've been a good Samaritan in helping abandoned kittens and being green to save the earth and inventing a cure for cancer and being a charitable sister. He would have sentenced me with the death penalty (Singapore has capital punishment) instead of giving me a lollipop for having donated blood and probably saved some child's life.

It is the same with God. When we go to heaven after death, he would not pat our heads and say "Good girl! That's a lot of good deeds on your list, I'll let you stay in heaven with me... You don't have to pay for anything." That would be an unjust and lousy God, one who didn't keep his word. There is only swift punishment for our crimes, even if a small blemish on the Bad list--that is not pure enough in God's eyes. Good works don't grant us entrance into heaven. Eph2:8-9 For it is by grace that you have been saved, through faith, and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God--not by works, so that no one can boast.

Grace is sth a person can give that we don't deserve. So what is this gift that God has freely given for us to take? It is JC who died for us. (Refer back to link above)
