Genesis 26Isaac and Abimelek

1 Now there was a famine in the land—besides the previous famine in Abraham’s time—and Isaac went to Abimelek king of the Philistines in Gerar. 2 The LORD appeared to Isaac and said, “Do not go down to Egypt; live in the land where I tell you to live. 3 Stay in this land for a while, and I will be with you and will bless you. For to you and your descendants I will give all these lands and will confirm the oath I swore to your father Abraham. 4 I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give them all these lands, and through your offspring[a] all nations on earth will be blessed,[b] 5 because Abraham obeyed me and did everything I required of him, keeping my commands, my decrees and my instructions.” 6 So Isaac stayed in Gerar.  7 When the men of that place asked him about his wife, he said, “She is my sister,” because he was afraid to say, “She is my wife.” He thought, “The men of this place might kill me on account of Rebekah, because she is beautiful.”

One more Laugh a Day

Or just to work your wits when the conversation gets boring. Good for use in any occasion, especially in social gatherings or prayer meetings; you sorta get to inject humour in any time and even preach a bit about the gospel to unbelievers without offending.

I know one Navigator brother who wanted to get attn when he took the train with the girls, he would start with, "Lemme tell you a joke...". I've used that countless times in dead social situations and, glad to admit, managed to revive a bit of life in my dinner mate or lunch buddy. It's good to know a bit of the Bible, and then laugh some off with others. A good one goes like: A pastor, rabbi and pope walked into the bar. The barman saw them and said, "What is this, some kind of joke?"

Quiet Time for Today--Gen 16

There is a downloadable and printable QT passage list in the side bar. Do use that if you don't have any.

Genesis 16
Hagar and Ishmael

1 Now Sarai, Abram’s wife, had borne him no children. But she had an Egyptian slave named Hagar; 2 so she said to Abram, “The LORD has kept me from having children. Go, sleep with my slave; perhaps I can build a family through her.”
Abram agreed to what Sarai said. 3 So after Abram had been living in Canaan ten years, Sarai his wife took her Egyptian slave Hagar and gave her to her husband to be his wife. 4 He slept with Hagar, and she conceived.

   I am your shield,[a]
   your very great reward.[b]

2 But Abram said, “Sovereign LORD, what can you give me since I remain childless and the one who will inherit[c] my estate is Eliezer of Damascus?” 3 And Abram said, “You have given me no children; so a servant in my household will be my heir.”  4 Then the word of the LORD came to him: “This man will not be your heir, but a son who is your own flesh and blood will be your heir.” 5 He took him outside and said, “Look up at the sky and count the stars—if indeed you can count them.” Then he said to him, “So shall your offspring[d] be.”

Hate Religion, But Love Jesus || Spoken Word

Jefferson Bethke wrote a poem on why he hates religion but love Jesus. Shot and edited by Matthew Roberts of http://cikproductions.com/.

Uploaded on YouTube in 10th Jan, I think this man has made all the clearer what religion has always been: man-made feature to fill the spiritual void in man's life. It says worship this, do good things, practice new rituals to become pure. We've had the one man, Jesus, all along, so why go and change things to what does not fulfil and satisfy?

Snippet of his poem:

Religion says "DO", Jesus says "DONE".
Religion says "SLAVE", Jesus says "SON".
Religion puts you in bondage, but Jesus sets you free.
Religion makes you blind, but Jesus makes you see.
That's why Jesus and religion are two different clans...
Religion is man searching for God/god, but Christianity is God searching for man.

Wow, what assurance. If i'd done a poem i think ppl wud be more confused. Good job.

You can compare religion with Christianity and say, hey, Christians actually practice a faith and so they are considered religion. But what sorta' religion wud hv a God who says you can have eternal life if you just come and acknowledge me, the only True God, and Jesus whom I sent (John 17:3). No, dun nd to do any charity or any volunteer work because you cannot be saved by that anw (Ephesians 2:8-9). Confess of your disobedience/sins/ignorance and ACCEPT that Jesus died for you. Why he came was for you! (1John 1:9)

Justifying Navigators club

Navigator sister Nissi... lol n me in the background. i was forced for an impromptu pic.
Isaiah55:2 [NIV] "Why spend money on what is not bread,
and your labor on what does not satisfy?
Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good,
and you will delight in the richest of fare."

After this Scripture Memory contest thingy a couple of Saturdays ago, the Navigators club at school made us reflect on what sorta' verse we memorised that made an impact on us that week. Mine was the verse above... it wasn't a verse i memorised but it stood out during a Quiet Time in one morning. Cue Rocky theme music!
Nav bros goofing off during the Christmas party a month back.
My super and colleague and frens were recently asking, as much as I asked myself, what i would do after graduating frm poly. The Navigators 1st came to mind. I tot it would be good to spend abt a year more with them to encourage the sisters thr for a while. So I explained what we did to the super and even my mum, but i realise tt it didn't make sense to them. Why so many hours, and so many activities?

This bothered myself, tt i couldn't convince them and was starting to feel not so convinced myself. I couldn't tell them of tt nice feeling I got when I fellowshipped with the girls and did God's work tgt. I couldn't pinpoint tt emotion nor justify what we did. But I guess this verse cuts it: I could and wanted to delight in God's richest fare he offers. It is good, and it was clearly an invitation to eat what is good. Yay! Good spiritual food. Anw they also have good snacks, and i bring the Ritz with cheese often =3
